Seaweed bed regeneration seminar

In the sea, the decline of seaweed beds, which are habitats for fish to lay eggs and raise their eggs, is becoming a problem not only in Japan but around the world.
Desertification of the sea, which means drying up of rocky shores, is rapidly spreading, and there is a need for not only conservation of the natural marine ecosystem, but also environmental restoration and regeneration. This is a special opportunity for you to experience the regeneration of seaweed beds inside Japan's first marina in Riviera, which will begin in 2022.

<Blue Carbon Belt®>
As ocean desertification (i.e. drying up of seashores) is rapidly spreading, Riviera's proposed Blue Carbon Belt® concept connects existing and new seaweed beds into a belt, starting from Sagami Bay and extending along the entire coast of Japan. Aiming to expand, we established the Blue Carbon Belt Riviera Institute, a general incorporated association, in 2021. As part of this initiative, starting in November 2022, Riviera Zushi Marina (Zushi City, Kanagawa Prefecture) and Riviera Seabornia Marina (Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture) will be the first marinas in Japan to undertake a seaweed bed restoration project, and the area of activity will be expanded yearly. It's expanding.
In this project, by promoting the regeneration of seaweed beds using early maturing seaweed, we will increase the protection and sustainability of the marine ecosystem, and at the same time contribute to ocean decarbonization (blue carbon). The aim is to widely disseminate the important role played by the government.
