FAQ

-About ocean scattering-

Is marine scatter legally legal?

There is no legal problem. It is not regulated by the "Law Concerning Graveyards and Burials, etc." Has stated. However, if the local government regulates bone cutting by ordinance, it is not possible to perform bone cutting in the place regulated by the local government. At our company, we take into consideration not only nature and the surrounding environment, but also the feelings of the bereaved family.

Where are the prohibited places for bone-cutting?

The following places are not suitable for bone-cutting without ordinances and laws. Particular attention should be paid to other people's private land, around tourist spots, and near farms.
• Public facilities / premises without permission to scatter
• The surrounding sea area where the farm is located
• Within sightseeing spots and sightseeing routes

Do I need to get a permit from the government office?

This is not necessary if you are scattering the ashes of someone you already own. However, if you are scattering ashes from a cemetery, you will need to obtain a "Reburial Permit" from the relevant city, ward, mayor, or village, or a "Certificate of Ashes Handover" from the cemetery administrator. In general, as the ashes age, they may absorb moisture or develop mold, making it impossible to pulverize them as they are. In such cases, additional work processes and costs are required, such as washing the bones and drying them. Please make sure to complete the procedure well in advance.

Is it possible to scatter the ashes as they are?

It is forbidden to scatter the ashes as they are. Scatter the bones to a size of 2 mm or less. If it is left in a finely crushed state, it may be blown away by the wind, so wrap it in water-soluble paper. Scattering is done while wrapped in paper.

Can some of the remains stored in a grave or ossuary be scattered (divided)?

Of course, it is possible. Some people divide the ashes because they want to bury them in the graves of their respective family members, because their graves are far away and they want to divide the ashes closer so they can visit the graves, or they want to divide the ashes at the head temple of their sect. Some people also scatter part of the ashes in the forest or at sea, or keep them close at hand.

I'd like to ask for powdered bone, what should I do?

If you live in the Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, or Saitama areas, we will come to your home to collect your luggage free of charge.
* For people in other areas, please contact us as we will only add the actual transportation expenses.

How long does it take to powder?

It takes about 1 week to 10 days from the time you receive your ashes to the time they are delivered, so please make a request with plenty of time.

How long does bone-cutting take place after the deceased's death?

There are no specific rules. It may be held immediately after the funeral of the deceased, after the 49th day, or several years later. In any case, it is important that the ceremony is held only after the bereaved family members are fully in agreement.

Is it related to religion?

This is a free funeral that is conducted in accordance with the wishes of the deceased and their family. Please rest assured that there are no particular issues regardless of religious affiliation.

How much ashes are scattered?

It doesn't matter if you scatter all or just a portion of the ashes. Scattering all of the ashes would be lonely, so many people choose to keep a portion of the ashes and place them in a personal memorial item (such as a mini urn or jewelry) and hold a memorial service at home.

Can I scatter personal belongings along with the funeral?

Please note that we do not accept requests in principle due to concerns that this may have a negative impact on fishing industry personnel and the environment.

What season is right for marine scatter?

There is no set time, and the service is available all year round. The weather is pleasant in spring and autumn, and in summer you can see the sky and clouds that are perfect for the sea. In winter, the sea is clear and the waves are calm. The inside of the boat is warm, and you can only go out onto the outside deck for scattering the ashes, so please apply according to your schedule.

Does marine scatter have no environmental impact?

The main component of the ashes is calcium phosphate, which is originally found in nature and is not harmful to the environment. It returns to the sea in the same way as the natural cycle of sea creatures.

Checklist

What kind of sea area will the ashes be scattered in?

This is limited to waters where no fishing rights exist and are a certain distance from the shore. The scattering certificate will record the latitude and longitude of the scattering point. The boat will depart from Riviera Zushi Marina or Riviera Seabornia Marina.
*We can also arrange marinas and public ports, mainly in Sagami Bay. Depending on your desired location, additional fees may apply.

How long does the cruise take?

It may change depending on the weather and the number of people, but it will take about 1 hour from departure to return. (In the case of Riviera Zushi Marina and Riviera Zushi Marina)

Is it possible to specify the cruising time?

Depending on the reservation situation, you may be able to specify it. Normally, our marine funeral cruising has departures in the morning and afternoon. Evening sunset cruising is also possible during the long summer months.
We may not be able to meet your request, especially on weekends and consecutive holidays when reservations are concentrated, but we will make adjustments to the extent possible, so please let us know your request.

How long in advance should I apply for a reservation?

We would like to have the remains pulverized one week before the funeral. Since collection of the remains also depends on our schedule, we ask that you apply at least two weeks in advance.

Is it possible to cancel after applying?

Cancellation is possible, but a default cancellation fee will be charged depending on the time. Please see the cancellation policy for details

Is it okay for religious people (monks, pastors, etc.) to board the ship?

There is no specific religion or sect in the bone-cutting, so there is no problem even if a monk or pastor is on board. Please note that the number of passengers on board is counted as the number of passengers on board.

Is it possible to apply for my own bone-cutting before I live?

Applications can also be made during your lifetime. We will have discussions with your relatives present, so please contact us first.
