4rd LOVE OCEAN

For the future of the earth and our children
LOVE OCEAN project

For those of us who are always at sea, the land that we see from the Riviera is a beautiful landscape with no boundaries between prefectures, cities, or towns. I also feel a sense of crisis as the effects of environmental problems cross boundaries set by humans. The LOVEOCEAN project, sponsored by the NPO Riviera Future Creation Project, aims for co-creation that transcends all boundaries.
The LOVE OCEAN project, which protects the beautiful and rich ocean and spreads the charm of the ocean, will start in 2021 in three cities and towns: Zushi, Hayama, and Kamakura, with the second round in six cities and towns, and the third and fourth rounds in Kanagawa Prefecture. Expanded cooperation to 3 municipalities along the coast.
Collaboration with the G5 was a major topic at the 6th LOVE OCEAN held last May and June. In addition to beach cleans and ocean symposiums, we also collaborated with various sports promoting cleanliness and held tours of seaweed bed regeneration. We are working on ``environmental and wide-area regional revitalization from the perspective of the sea'' by connecting people to people, the sea to cities, and cities to cities.

"Shonan Coast (Miura - Yugawara)"
Riviera Shonan Beach Clean

Following the example of the US West Coast and Australia's Gold Coast, the Riviera has named the area along the coast of Kanagawa Prefecture from Yugawara to Miura the ``Shonan Coast.''
The ``Riviera Shonan Beach Clean'' relay race traveled the Shonan Coast for four days. Even though the weather is usually sunny at the end of the Golden Week, I was worried that it might rain due to climate change, but surprisingly, the rain stopped just in time for the beach clean. In addition to municipal leaders, prefectural and municipal officials, local residents, businesses and organizations, fishermen, marine sports enthusiasts, and others who supported the LOVE OCEAN project, people from Tokyo, Chiba, and Saitama participated in the beach cleanup project. We gathered for.

It is said that 7 to 8% of marine garbage is garbage generated in "towns."
On June 8th, World Oceans Day, the LOVE OCEAN project for the future of the Earth and our children. The land visible from the Riviera, where we are always in the ocean, is a beautiful landscape with no boundaries between prefectures and cities. Connecting people to people, the sea to the city, and the city to the city, we also carried out cleanup activities at Ikebukuro at Umikarakai Terminal Station. Students from universities such as Rikkyo University and Waseda University, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, companies in Tokyo, and local communities participated. A large number of residents and others participated. They shared the awareness that the sea and the city are connected, and through the activity, interest in the sea increased in the ``town.''

LOVE OCEAN held overseas
In Los Angeles and Shanghai

This time, beach cleans were also carried out in Los Angeles and Shanghai. Since the oceans are interconnected, trash from Japan may have been carried overseas by ocean currents, and trash from other countries may have been picked up in Japan. We felt the desire to "connect" globally.

Connecting sashes to the world's oceans

On May 21st, the "G20 Mega Beach Cleanup" was held all over the world. We participated in the ``LOVE OCEAN Riviera Shonan ``LOVE OCEAN Daisakusen @ Ikebukuro'' event on the Wada-Nagahama coast that straddles Yokosuka and Miura. When I looked closely, I saw cigarette butts discarded in cracks in the gutters, as if hidden, and I felt a sense of crisis that they were flowing from the city center through the drains to the river and then to the ocean. Although I was interested in beach cleanup, I had a hard time putting it into action, but thanks to the invitation from Riviera, which is familiar to me in Ikebukuro, I was able to pick up trash in the city of Ikebukuro, which is not adjacent to the sea, and was able to clean the sea. It was a very valuable discovery to know that it could lead to protection.
Rikkyo University Volunteer Circle Eddy Vice Representative Eika Ryuka The sea is interconnected, so the problem of marine debris cannot be dealt with by one country.
The G20 launched the Osaka Blue Ocean Vision in 2019, and this year, India, the country's chair, called for ``Let's take action together.'' "LOVE OCEAN - Riviera Shonan Beach Clean @ Wada Nagahama Beach" was held in Japan, and beach cleans were held all over the world on May 5st. Even on a global scale, each action begins with the actions of individuals. I am grateful that Riviera is expanding these activities, mainly in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Because the oceans are interconnected, the problem of marine debris cannot be tackled by a single country. Even in fishing tournaments and sailing tournaments.
clean action

On May 21st, "Riviera Fishing Master 2023 Early Summer" will be held to compete for the catch of red sea bream and horse mackerel, and on June 11th, "Clean Sailing Regatta 2023" will be held. A new challenge for these two competitions is picking up floating trash at sea. We also made efforts to bring our own bottles and avoid bringing in plastic products.
In particular, the fishing competition included picking up trash at sea as a weighing condition, and a large amount of plastic trash, such as Styrofoam and plastic bottles, floating on the sea was delivered to Riviera Seabornia Marina, the weighing venue.
Many people who enjoy marine sports are highly environmentally conscious. Participants commented that they were reminded that they can contribute to the marine environment while enjoying fishing and sailing.

Collaboration with various sports

We collaborated with the Japan Volleyball Association, Kanagawa Prefecture Rugby Football Association, and Shonan Bellmare, all of whom are highly conscious of the environment, saying, ``Sports can only be played in a good environment!'' On June 4th, we held our first clean tag rugby tournament at Riviera Zushi Marina. Of course, the competition and beach clean are included.

Bicycles are an earth-friendly form of mobility
Tour de Shonan Coast held

During the LOVE OCEAN period, the ``Tour de SHONAN Coast'' will be held, a cycling tour along the scenic Pacific Coast Bicycle Route, which is also the National Cycle Route. Cycling is also a form of mobility that has benefits in a variety of fields, including the environment, health, tourism, education, economy, and transportation. We are promoting cycle tourism in the hope of creating a new flow of people to cities by the sea.

International environmental certification blue flag
Seaside digital stamp rally

The trend of choosing "Blue Flag" destinations as travel destinations, mainly in Europe, has become established. The Shonan Coast is home to Riviera Zushi Marina, the only Blue Flag marina in Asia, as well as three Blue Flag beaches. A digital stamp rally will be held around the Shonan Coast to discover and reaffirm the appeal of coastal tourism resources. It was highly praised by the participants, who said, ``It was surprisingly fun.''

Seaweed bed regeneration tour
Connect with Blue Carbon Belt®

The Blue Carbon Belt Riviera Research Institute proposes the ``Blue Carbon Belt®,'' which connects seaweed bed regeneration in a belt-like manner, and is taking on the challenge of regenerating seaweed beds within marinas starting in 2022.
A precocious whitefish found in Moroiso that grows three times faster than normal has been placed at Riviera Zushi Marina and Riviera Seabornia Marina and is being cultivated as part of experimental research. At the same time, we are also exploring ways to expand the blue carbon belt throughout Sagami Bay.
In order to share our research results, we held a special two-day tour where you could see the breeding status of kingfish at Riviera Zushi Marina.
On June 13th, divers observed from under the sea, participants from various areas of the Shonan Coast including Miura, Yokosuka, Hayama, Zushi, Fujisawa, and Odawara. The divers quickly got to know each other and shared the efforts and challenges of each region.
On June 18th, we welcomed a large number of participants, from children to researchers, business people, fishermen, local governments, environmental activists, and senior citizens, and we had the opportunity to watch the Kajime from the pier.
The tour also included a carbon-neutral tour of the environmentally friendly Riviera Zushi Marina, which uses compost to completely recycle food and generate solar power.
It has also created opportunities for interaction between participants, expanded the circle of people who love the sea, and received a lot of feedback.

Think about the sea
Thinking about the future from the sea

On June 4th, the conclusion of the 18th LOVE OCEAN, we held the always popular ``Sea Symposium.'' This symposium will focus on the ocean, not only environmental issues, but also tourism, leisure, fisheries, marine sports, art, entertainment, marine culture, and local economy, with the theme of ``thinking about the future from the ocean''. We are talking to each other.
Each time we have a diverse audience, and this time we have had people from a wide range of industries and generations speak from their respective perspectives, including actresses, fishermen, university professors, businessmen, artists, seamen who know everything about the charm of the sea, and high school students. .
This symposium, which features non-stop discussions as if you were watching TV, condenses the essence of the event, starting with the current state of the ocean, individual activities, and new initiatives for the exciting future of the ocean. Everyone's stories were littered with hints for a prosperous future that can be considered from the perspective of the ocean. We will continue to aim for environmental conservation and revitalization of the local economy.
