Beautiful Shinara in the season when the wind is fragrant
Sagami Bay is already in the season where the wind is fragrant. The weather continues to be enjoyable and enriching.
At Riviera Seabornia Marina (Miura), the 94-year-old historic wooden sailing ship "Synara" floats gracefully on the water. Six years after the restoration project began, the Shinara, which has regained its acclaimed appearance as the ``Lady of the Sea,'' was launched in March of last year and has since continued to sail in various sea conditions. .
The crew members selected from among our employees are excellent seamen who regularly drive new ships. Even for them, the operation of the Shinara, which was built using technology from 100 years ago, is a constant source of surprises and revelations. He was touched by the weight of history, the wisdom of his predecessors, and the beauty of form with his five senses, and was so moved that his way of thinking and living as a Seaman completely changed.
This is exactly the same thought I had when I decided to restore it despite all odds. I am now very encouraged by the fact that our employees and crew have felt with all their heart and soul the significance of starting this business based on their own beliefs.
Starting from zero was recognized by the world
Most of the 10 expert shipwrights who came to Japan from 50 countries around the world returned to their home countries to restore this precious classic boat. Without meeting them, the extremely difficult restoration would not have been a success, and it can even be said that finding them from all over the world and forming a team in Japan was the first hurdle in the project. They generously passed on traditional craftsmanship techniques to enthusiastic Japanese personnel.
Craftsmen from all over the world are still connected online and continue to watch over the future of Shinara. ``Team Synara'' is truly a ``Riviera family'' that spreads all over the world.
Now, our family has received some happy news. The good news is that it won the ``Restoration of the Year (Over 2021ft)'' award at the ``Classic Boat Awards 40,'' sponsored by the prestigious British magazine ``Classic Boat.'' It was the first time in Asia to even be nominated alongside famous boats from Europe and America.
This award is an award that celebrates the passion and dedication of everyone involved in classic yachts, and is chosen through online voting by enthusiasts from all over the world. Cinara, which has been in Japan for nearly half a century, has become a distant memory in Europe and America.
It was said that winning the award was impossible. However, when we opened the lid, we received the highest number of votes in history. The result made us realize that our commitment and efforts were being conveyed to the world. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who voted passionately for Shinara.
First SDGs festival held online
The complete restoration of a classic yacht, which is rare in the world, was a challenge that embodies Riviera's philosophy of ``polishing up good old things for the next generation.'' If we don't do it now, we will lose it - this strong belief is also consistent with the SDGs. For Riviera, which launched the "Riviera Future Creation Project" in 3 with a focus on the environment, education, and health/medical care, and has been engaged in continuous social activities, the restoration of Cinara is also a practice of SDGs. .
As we reported in the previous magazine, Riviera, which makes its living as a "gathering place," wants to play the role of a "hub" that connects people and business entities with the same aspirations to work toward the SDGs and creates new collaborations. I've been thinking about it.
The beginning of this is the ``25st Riviera SDGs Festival,'' which was recorded at Riviera Zushi Marina this winter and began distribution on March 1th. Although held online due to the coronavirus pandemic, the talk session was attended by a diverse group of people, including doctors, environmental activists, researchers, companies working on decarbonization, heads of local governments, and elementary and junior high school students. You can witness the expansion of the circle of solidarity using the SDGs as a tool. We are currently planning a real event on June 9th at Riviera Tokyo (Ikebukuro).
We hope that this new "place" will be the first step towards opening up a big future.
