Without extinguishing the 100-year fire

TOKYO2020 has ended. We are proud to have been able to help keep the Olympic flame alive, which has continued for more than 100 years, and carry it on to Paris three years later, and then to Los Angeles the next.

Even before it became a “buzzword”
Sustainability

Since the United Nations SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) were launched, the word "sustainability" has become very familiar, but even before this became a buzzword, the Riviera had been thinking about "sustainability". has been the theme.
Riviera Zushi Marina and Riviera Seabornia Marina have also been operating for over half a century. Riviera Tokyo, located in Ikebukuro, is a three-story wooden building that opened under the name "Hakuunkaku" and is celebrating its 3st anniversary. In each case, each and every employee has continued to improve the facilities day by day, carefully repairing damaged areas, and as a result, we have reached the point where we are today. Wooden construction has a warmth that concrete does not have. Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles has been open for 71 years. The historic wooden sailing ship ``Sinara'', which has been completely restored, is 95 years old. Riviera's corporate philosophy of refining good old things and passing them on to the next generation overlaps with the SDGs.
With the opening of Malibu Hotel last year, Riviera has entered a new stage of ``stay-type'' accommodation. The hotel features state-of-the-art building technology, including an eco-conscious energy system that utilizes solar power and electric vehicles.
However, the philosophy remains unchanged. For example, the signboard at the Malibu Hotel is lovingly repurposed from precious Cynara wood from about 100 years ago, symbolizing the connection between the past and the future. Thirty or 30 years from now, this hotel will also be carefully polished by the next generation of employees as a ``good old thing'' inherited from the previous generation.

what you can do
keep doing it honestly

When I inherited the marina business in 2001 and faced the ocean, my concern for the environment grew.
In an effort to reduce CO2 emissions and reduce incineration at garbage disposal sites, scraps from the kitchen at Riviera Zushi Marina are processed and used as compost in the company's vegetable garden. The ``circular farming method = complete recycling of food,'' in which vegetables grown and harvested there are served in restaurants, is one of the pillars of the ``Riviera Future Creation Project,'' which started in 2006. This initiative provided a great learning experience for our employees who are aiming for zero waste. The fruits of the season are something to be proud of.
We must continue to do what we can honestly. I believe that this will create the future.

Accumulation is evaluated
A widening circle of empathy

Recycling farming, the spread of EVs, and beach cleans are all small activities. However, as our members, customers, and business partners appreciate our efforts, we feel that our circle of sympathy has expanded. I hope that we can continue to work together as comrades in the future.
The "Riviera SDGs Festival", which started this year with nine years remaining until the 2030 goal set by the SDGs, will be held for the third time on October 9st. This is a long-awaited event with an audience. In addition, on December 31th, we will hold a beach clean event with the theme of "LOVE OCEAN". I'm looking forward to talking with everyone who has the same aspirations as the global environment and creating the future.
