A moment with Tiger Woods.

Self-proclaimed “golf geek”
A conversation with Tiger Woods

The Genesis Open is a tournament on the US PGA Tour held every February at The Riviera Country Club (RCC) in Los Angeles, USA. This year's tournament, which was held for the second time since the sponsor changed to Hyundai Motor Group and the tournament name was changed to its current name, was held over four days under sunny skies, with a large number of galleries in attendance, and heated competitions unfolded.
The Tiger Woods Foundation has been hosting the tournament since it became the Genesis Open, and this year Tiger himself returned as a player, which became a hot topic of conversation.
While having lunch with Tiger, I was struck by his friendly personality. Although he described himself as a "golf geek," I was surprised by his track record in numerous tournaments and his wealth of knowledge about courses, as well as his depth of knowledge about golf in general.
Tiger Woods as a player finally made a comeback this year, but it is said that behind this comeback was the existence of his two children.

through tournaments
Social contributions

The Tiger Woods Foundation supports children as part of its efforts to expand the horizons of golf, but it also actively engages in public interest activities through the Genesis Open.
Fundraising and educational support is very popular in the United States, and RCC considers it a great honor to have provided such large amounts of support through tournaments to date.

The drama that arises every time
The staff that supports it

This year's Genesis Open winner is Bubba Watson. This is her third RCC win, following wins at the Northern Trust Open in 2014 and 2016. It was an important milestone for Watson, his 3th tour win, but it has been two years since his last Northern Trust win. Her tears of emotion at the award ceremony were truly impressive, considering that she faced various hardships, including a physical injury. There are many dramas every year. That's the real thrill of tournaments.
Course maintenance staff are behind the scenes supporting the heated drama of major tournaments. Normally, 40 staff members manage the course at RCC, but during the tournament period, top-notch staff members selected from all over the United States, Europe, Canada, and Japan gather at RCC as volunteers, and a total of 80 staff members manage the tournament. They support course management. The perfect finish of the greens, the same green speed of 100 on the Stimp Meter as in the Masters, and the beautiful contrast between fairways and rough, befitting the UsPGA Tour, which is broadcast to 13 countries around the world, are the result of their hard work.

history engraved
continue to pass it on to future generations

This is a tournament that creates a lot of drama every year and creates new history every year. We are also nearing completion of the ``Clubhouse Museum,'' which will allow as many people as possible to learn about our history and pass it on to future generations.
I have been in touch with the previous owner, Mr. Frank Hatherway, from time to time every year, and he continues to watch over RCC warmly. Thank you very much.
