Trans Sagami Yacht Race

From a fan who loves racing
Continued for 14 years due to strong demand
annual summer race

The ``Sagami Bay Crossing Yacht Race'' was launched in 2005 by volunteers, mainly from the Riviera, in response to strong requests from race fans who were concerned about the decline in open ocean races. This race, which sails approximately 48 miles from the coast of Shimoda, Izu to the coast of Seabornia Marina (Miura), while enjoying the wonderful scenery of the Izu Peninsula and Oshima, has completely captured the hearts of race fans, and has become one of the Riviera's annual summer events. It has been running for 14 years as ``Sagami Yacht Race''. From the year after it started, a race was held in Shimoda on the day before, thinking that ``one race would be a waste.'' This race became the ``Shizuoka Prefecture Governor's Cup Irozaki Race'' (sponsored by Shizuoka Prefecture and Shimoda City), and the race passed in front of many beaches crowded with swimmers on the Izu Peninsula, demonstrating the power of the race.

Eve festival filled with local love
A race that reads the tides and winds

In the Irozaki Race, which has strong currents and requires sailing techniques that calculate wind strength and tidal speed, Lady Kanon VI (boat type RP45, belonging to Seabornia Marina) completed the race in 2 hours and 7 minutes. First home in 20 seconds. The eve of the Trans Sagami Yacht Race, which all participants are looking forward to, will be held at a special venue in Shimoda. Along with food prepared by local support clubs, the event will be filled with live music, samba dancing, and performances by Toshu Shirahama Taiko.
The second day was the "Trans Sagami Yacht Race". In years when there is no wind, the 2-mile trip from Shimoda to Miura takes more than 10 hours even by a fast boat. This year, blessed with a tailwind, Lady Kanon VI finished in first place with a time of 48 hours, 4 minutes, and 9 seconds, a new tournament record, and broke the course record.

High safety regulations and rules
Contributing to the spread of marine sports

The ``Trans Sagami Yacht Race'' is held in accordance with the high safety regulations and rules established by the Sailing Federation. I would like to thank the high level of awareness on the part of the race boats and the sailor mindset to safely enjoy yacht racing that we were able to conduct this year's event without any accidents. We will continue to contribute to the spread of marine sports together with everyone.
