Connecting the Earth to the Next Future

In order to create a future where we coexist with nature, the NPO Riviera Future Creation Project is carrying out various activities to prevent marine pollution, prevent global warming, and conserve forests, rivers, and lakes, as well as to contribute to environmental conservation, promotion of social education, and healthy development of children, by carrying out projects related to the conservation of the natural environment, measures against greenhouse gas emissions, and measures against waste such as plastics. In addition, the project aims to spread its activities in cooperation with domestic and international organizations with the same objectives, to become a contact point for the Riviera Group's SDGs activities, and to build a strong network with companies and supporters with whom it can collaborate.

LOVE OCEAN project

This project, which began in 2021, has the slogan "People gather around a beautiful ocean." It aims to revitalize the regional economy over a wide area by protecting the beautiful and abundant ocean for the future of the Earth and our children and promoting the appeal of the ocean.
We are aware of the deep connection between the sea and land through the operation of the marina, and based on the idea that "the sea is connected" and "environmental issues affect each other beyond the boundaries of cities and towns," we connect "people to people, sea to towns, and town to town." The scope of our activities in collaboration with local governments has expanded from three cities and towns at the beginning to 3 cities and towns in Japan and three regions overseas. We are branding the area (improving the value and meaning of the area) as a "LOVE OCEAN area" and raising awareness, promoting the blue economy (marine economic activities that sustainably develop society while protecting the sea) and building a sustainable society, and co-creating with many people who love the sea, regardless of their position, hand in hand.

We conducted beach cleanups on 13 beaches in 13 cities and towns along the entire coast of Kanagawa Prefecture (Miura, Yokosuka, Hayama, Zushi, Kamakura, Fujisawa, Chigasaki, Hiratsuka, Oiso, Ninomiya, Odawara, Manazuru, and Yugawara). We also collaborated with the G20 and held a "Mega Beach Cleanup."

As a measure to prevent isolated areas in the event of a disaster, we conducted a "maritime disaster prevention drill" in which we transported and delivered supplies by sea connecting Hayama Town, Zushi City, Kamakura City, and Fujisawa City.

LOVE OCEAN operation from the city

To raise awareness that 7 to 8 percent of marine litter flows out of cities, a cleanup was carried out in Ikebukuro, the center of Tokyo, on World Ocean Day on June 6th.

Each time, a variety of experts take to the stage with the theme of "Thinking about the future from the sea." Together with experts and enthusiastic colleagues, we think about the marine environment and share our thoughts about coexistence with the sea and our future.

SDGs tour

This event will include a tour of the compost station, which is one of the routes for the "Riviera Circulating Vegetables" that circulate in Shonan, and the seaweed bed restoration site, the first of its kind in Japan to be built within a marina as a measure against blue carbon.

Fishing Master

This is a boat fishing competition where participants compete for the most catches while taking part in clean-up actions and raising awareness of marine nature conservation. Participation requires participants to pick up plastic waste at sea.

Riviera SDGs Manga Award

The open exhibition "Riviera SDGs Manga Award" is an ongoing award that aims to foster a chain of events and broaden the scope of the sustainable movement. It has also spread to educators, schools, local governments, and companies that promote SDGs education. In addition to the "SDGs Manga Award" and report works that are easy to understand for everyone regardless of age or language, we have also established the "SDGs Senryu Award," and all generations, from seniors to children who are currently receiving SDGs education, are taking the lead role in communicating for a sustainable society.

①We will expand the creation of a society that recognizes diversity through SDGs that can be considered in a variety of ways without being bound by one approach or answer.
② Realize a society in which all generations can play an active role, from children who are native to the SDGs to seniors who have lived in an era of ultimate sustainability.
③Create opportunities to organize your thoughts and communicate them in an easy-to-understand way to others, contributing to the development of human resources who will carry the future.

Other Activities

In addition, using Riviera Zushi Marina as a base, we are expanding the scope of various activities in collaboration with local governments and companies. We visit elementary schools to give on-site lessons on the ocean and the environment, and we also hold experiences in growing Ecklonia seedlings to help restore seaweed beds. We also host the Shonan International Art Festival, hoping that by disseminating art from the sea, it will serve as a roadmap for improving marine environmental problems and local issues.
