marine debris problem

It is said that the amount of marine debris will exceed the weight of fish by 2050, and marine pollution is a serious problem. Eight million tons of plastic waste enters the ocean every year, seriously impacting marine life. It is said that 800% of marine debris is caused by "city trash," and microplastics, tiny pieces of plastic, can also be taken into marine life and affect humans through the food chain.

Activity purpose

In order to reduce marine debris, it is essential to take proactive action not only in the ocean but also in the city. In order to raise awareness of the deep connection between the ocean and the city, we will hold a garbage collection event for the ocean in a large city without an ocean, thereby protecting the ocean for the next generation and contributing to ocean protection and the global environment. We will take the following actions and send the message.
Held for the first time last year, the event attracted participants from a wide range of ages, from 7 to 77 years old, with a particularly large number of university students participating. This activity received a great response and will be held again this year.

Riviera proposes a continuous marine ecosystem restoration zone that connects seaweed bed restoration in the form of a belt.
This concept, which contributes to both environmental issues and the local economy, will spread throughout Japan, and with the aim of enveloping Japan's oceans in the Blue Carbon Belt®, we will first transform Sagami Bay into the Shonan Blue Carbon®!

We would be happy if all divers could join us in building the Blue Carbon Belt®.

|<Finished>June 18th Tue. ・July 2nd Tue. Observation of seaweed bed restoration ~Diving tour~

\Must-see for divers / Underwater tour of a seaweed bed restoration site that creates a sea forest to protect the rich ocean!

We received a great response to the ``Visit of seaweed bed restoration - Dive and tour'' held last year at the seaweed bed restoration site at Riviera Zushi Marina.
We will be holding a "dive and tour" event again this year, and we will be giving a special tour of the seaweed bed restoration site, which has expanded in area since last year. You can see the changes and evolution from last year.

In recent years, as a result of global warming and other factors, seaweed beds, which are habitats for fish, are rapidly disappearing. This is a serious problem nationwide, and the denudation of rocky areas is having a major negative impact on marine ecosystems and the fishing industry.
Therefore, the Blue Carbon Belt Riviera Institute, a general incorporated association, is proposing the construction of a "Blue Carbon Belt®" and is conducting Japan's first seaweed bed regeneration project in marinas at Riviera Zushi Marina and Riviera Seabornia Marina. doing. This project, which aims to mitigate climate change, will reduce CO2 by absorbing and fixing carbon, regenerating a sustainable marine environment, conserving marine biodiversity, restoring fisheries resources, and contributing to the development of local economies.
